First Aid Training

Description: First Aid for the Community and Workplace, utilizing the American Safety and Health Institute curriculum and certified instructors. Class format is partially lecture and partially practical (hands-on). Completion of the course requires students to demonstrate proficiency of skills presented in class and a short written test. Satisfactory completion of the course entitles you to a certificate valid for two years from date of completion. Registration is required. Space is limited (min: 8 students; max 25 students). The cost is $25 per student, due at the start of class, payable with exact change or check made payable to Daisy Mountain Fire & Medical, but is free to DMFD Citizen Corps Volunteers.

Daisy Mountain Veterans Memorial Day Ceremony
When:

Description: The Anthem Veterans Memorial (AVM), located in Community Park, is a monument dedicated to honor the service and sacrifice of our country’s armed forces. It is a place of honor and reflection for veterans, their family and friends, and also is a place to show respect to those service men and women who have and continue to courageously serve our county. This event is sponsored by the Daisy Mountain Veterans. As of the time of this posting, DMFM CERT has committed to support this event with a first aid station, however no other details are available. We will probably need to arrive about 8:00 am for setup and the event will probably run until about 11:30 am, so allow for tear-down. Regardless, please sign up if you're available and I'll share details as I receive them.

Ham Radio Technician Class

Ham Radio Operator

When: 3 consecutive Saturdays from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, June 15th, June 22nd, and June 29th.

Where:
Daisy Mountain Fire Station 145, 1120 W Desert Hills Dr, Desert Hills AZ 85086 (map). Enter at the Southeast corner of the building. Parking is in the back at the trailhead.

Description: Presented by Daisy Mountain Fire Citizen Corps, this class will familiarize students with Ham radios and help prepare them to pass the FCC Technician Class License exam. NOTE: Morse code is no longer a requirement. This is the ideal class if you are interested in learning more about Amateur (Ham) Radio, becoming a licensed operator, or if Ham radio is part of your disaster preparedness communication plan.

Cost: The cost is $40 which covers the cost of both books, or if you choose, the class is free and you can purchase your own course materials online or locally at Ham Radio Outlet.

All students who wish to take the test on the last day of class will need to pay a $15 fee (cash only - exact change) that will be charged by the FCC authorized Volunteer Examiner Coordinator (VEC) to administer the exam.

Anthem Independence Day Celebration
When: Tuesday, July 3, 2017 6pm – 10pm
Where: ACC Community Park, 41703 N Gavilan Peak Pkwy, Anthem, AZ 85086 (map)
Description: Thousands of people Valley-wide come together to celebrate the annual Anthem Independence Day Celebration. Along with the traditional fireworks display, fun rides, activities and festival food, families bring blankets and lawn chairs and sit back to enjoy the spectacular event. Arrive by 4:00 pm to assist with setup and plan to stay for an hour after the event for tear down. We will be the event first aid station, and talk to visitors about disaster preparedness. Please wear your CERT uniform. You may bring dinner and snacks or purchase them there.

CPR Training

Description: CPR and AED for the Community and Workplace, utilizing the American Safety and Health Institute curriculum and certified instructors. Class format is partially lecture and partially practical (hands-on). Completion of the course requires students to demonstrate proficiency on mannequins while on the floor and a short written test. Satisfactory completion of the course entitles you to a certificate valid for two years from date of completion. Registration is required. Space is limited (min: 8 students; max 25 students). The cost is $25 per student, due at the start of class, payable with exact change or check made payable to Daisy Mountain Fire & Medical, but is free to DMFD Citizen Corps Volunteers. NOTE: If you require CPR for the Healthcare Professional this is not the correct class for you.

Anthem Autumnfest

Prickly Pedal Mountain Bike Event
When: Saturday, January 18, 2020 - 6:00 – 15:00
Where: Kunasek Trailhead along the Spear S trail at Linda Lane and New River Rd. LOCATION IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE. 
Description: 
Featuring a race course approximately 40-miles long, the Prickly Pedal Mountain Bike Race showcases the Maricopa Trail diversity. Aggressive ascents and descents, grinding it out on the flats, rocks, water, sand, mud, and roller coaster runs are all part of the fun. Beginning in Cave Creek and ending at Lake Pleasant, the course winds through the northern section of the Maricopa Trail including Anthem and Desert Hills. More than 300 riders are expected to participate. Racers and volunteers will have free entry into the After-Party and Award Ceremonies from 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm. The After-Party will include refreshments, a free raffle ticket, a beer garden, live music and a free kids race at Lake Pleasant Regional Park. Racers can check their bikes into a secure bike corral at the After Party while the shuttle takes them to retrieve their vehicles at the start line. DMFM CERT's responsibilities will be to staff a feed (refreshment) station, first aid station and assist with accountability for the riders using amateur radio. If there are enough volunteers we will staff an additional station. A DMFM Brush Truck will provide additional support.
